What is Soy Candle ?

Is Candle Made of Soybean Oil, Yes you read that right! Soy candles are made from hydrogenated soybean oil, which is called soybean wax. They are easy to make, and a lot of people find soy candle making a great hobby. They are made by using different dyes and fragrances to create the perfect candle, and a lot of people consider the soy candle to be the best choice when buying or making candles. They are easy to clean up if spilt and using soy is virtually the fastest way to make a candle.

Soy wax is possibly the safest candle wax of today, and is made from one of the most popular plants. Soybeans are used for everything from oils, to animal feed made from the remaining husks of the soybean plant. Soybeans are increasingly popular in China and other Asian countries, where they are used for food in all different kinds of recipes.

The History of Soy Candles

Michael Richards discovered using soy wax to make candles in 1991. Because of the growing demand for candles, Richards was looking for a cheaper way to make an environmentally safe natural candle that would burn slower than regular paraffin wax or beeswax. After many tests on different plants he found that soybean oil was the perfect candidate for the perfect candle.

Nowadays, soy candles are manufactured all over the world and are a popular candle because of their strong scent and the fact that they are environmentally friendly. Since soy wax candles will burn at approximately 100 degrees F the scent is spread quicker throughout the area. The average soy candle lasts about fifteen to seventeen hours giving them a much slower burning rate then other candles.

100% Non-Toxic

Another great thing about soy candles is that they are completely non-toxic, compared with paraffin wax, which has small amounts of toxicity that burns black. Although you should never burn many candles in a small, enclosed room, soy wax is much less harmful than regular wax and is safer for the environment. Soy wax is also easily removed from clothing and other materials with soap and water, compared with paraffin wax, which is not easily removed from carpet or any other material. A lot of natural candle makers claim to be "soot free" but in reality they are not. Not even soy candles are really and truly soot free, although they do produce at least 90% less soot. The fact that soy wax is non-toxic has made it increasingly popular among people who are more aware of keeping the planet earth clean and healthy.

Candle Safety

You should always practice proper candle safety when using any type of candle whether it is soy candles, paraffin, beeswax, or any other candle. Always keep candles away from pets and children, after all anything containing fire or anything that will burn, should be kept out of reach of children and pets. Keep wicks trimmed and never leave a candle burning for more that five hours at any time. Be sure to place the candle in a properly ventilated room, and never use more that one in a small space. Even though soy wax is non-toxic you should practice these safety measures, to keep you and your family happy, healthy and safe.

Romantic Night With Soy Candle

Soy candles are non-toxic, produce far less soot, and burn longer than traditional wax candles. Many producers of soy candles make "triple scented" ones, providing the strongest and longest-lasting aromas. Soy candles routinely burn up to 50% longer than traditional paraffin wax candles.

It could be said that a night at home with your loved one is the ultimate in romance it takes planning, care and imagination. Where as a meal at a restaurant followed by drinks at a bar could not be more formulaic.

A normal candle is made with 0.5 ounces of fragrance oil per pound of wax. A triple-scented candle contains 1.5 ounces of fragrance oil per pound of wax, which is likely the most the wax can hold and still be usable for candles. Especially for those who burn candles regularly, the difference between paraffin wax and soy can be alarming. Just because you're staying in, don't be sloppy with your clothes. Dress to the nines to show your partner you care about looking your best for them.

Traditional wax candles are manufactured primarily with paraffin wax, which is made from petroleum. This makes soy candles the friendlier choice for those who have pets and children.
Soy candles are made with all-natural wicks rather than ones that contain metal elements, providing an even cleaner burn. For all of these reasons, soy candles are the cleaner, healthier alternative.

Some companies mix soy with vegetable oil to produce sturdier candles. In addition to candles, you can burn soy chips or scented soy pieces in a burner. Ensure the wick is centered in the candle. While an off-center wick will still burn, the candle may not burn evenly. And please don't blow on the candle to extinguish it. When you initially burn your soy candle, burn it for one hour for each inch in diameter. A soy candle will most likely be marked as such on the label. More and more people now want to make a non-paraffin wax candle.

A romantic flick, with the music there and dress part get the true romance!

Natural Soy Candle

Soy candles were created in the 1990's by a man looking for a better, cleaner alternative to paraffin based candles. Soy wax candles are made from hydrogenated soy bean oil and are the perfect solution for environmentally conscious candle lovers who want to enjoy their natural candles as well as knowing the candle base was made from a natural and renewable source.

All natural soy wax candles do not produce any toxins. Paraffin has long been the most common source for candles. Soy wax candles can take more fragrance than paraffin based candles and will provide a consistent scent throughout the life of your soy candle. Scented soy candles will add a subtle treat to any space.

Soy candles are an all around America product. Next it's the many local chandlers who hand pour their distinctive soy wax candles. All natural soy candles are a unique addition to your home or office. To understand how the scenting of soy candles works, you have to understand how the candles are made. As you may have guessed, soy candles are made of soybeans. That oil, when cooled, becomes soy wax.

When it comes to soy candles, they are very receptive to the scenting process. Soy candles burn cooler and faster than traditional candles and that can translate to 50% less burning time on a single candle. But that also aids in the expansion of scent from the soy candles. Instead of a small pool of oil around a fast burning candle, there is a larger pool of oil that is melted around the wick of a soy candle. The preferred time is to allow a soy candle to burn one hour for each inch in diameter of the candle. Your scent comes from this burn pool.

Soy Candle Wax

Making your own candles at home while working with soy candle wax is much easier at times to work with than are other types of candle wax. You can safely add candle color dye and candle essential oil fragrances to your homemade soy candles.

One of the best things about using soy candles is that they are clean burning and longer lasting than the use of paraffin wax candles. Since soy candle wax burns much slower than most other waxes the slow burning of the candle makes for a more enhanced fragrance for a longer period.
As compared to candles made of paraffin, soy wax candle making proves to be low-maintenance.
Soy wax candle making also bears a number of secrets and must-haves. Soy candles are non-toxic to both humans and the environment. Remember the time when you fell in love with soy candle wax? Instead of buying soy candles at the supermarket, make your own. For the same money spent on 2 store-bought candles, you can make 20 homemade candles. Besides, you never know if you can make a candle empire just from one purchase of soy candle wax.

Remember to use wax dyes in soy wax candle making. Take note of possible candle wicks. For soy candles, what works best are thicker wicks or pre-tabbed wicks. For large soy candles, the best choice would be thicker wicks. As for small soy candles, it is best to choose corresponding small-sized wicks.

Candle containers are a must in soy wax candle making. In making your soy candles, make sure to cook or melt your wax at medium heat. Soy wax is a natural type of candle wax. The wax will not shrink as much as other types of candle wax. You will enjoy working with soy wax and making your own soy based candles in the comforts of your own home. You can make your own soy candles that will delight even the most serious candle critic.

Soy Candle Gift Certificates

By Marianne. Last year at my sister-in-laws birthday party I got her a beautiful sweater and I thought I had really gotten her something she would like this time. But as soon as I saw her open my present and her smile kind of faded, I knew that my sweater was going back to the store "pronto"! Nothing more embarrassing than that! Well, time passed and I was dreading her next upcoming birthday, because I wasn't going to be embarrassed this year again.

I was racking my brain and then it come to me, everybody loves candles, but I wasn't going to make the mistake of buying some. I was getting her a great candle gift certificate instead, so she could chose exactly the kind of candles and or candle holders she prefers. I found this great soy candle certificate and now all I have to do is hope and pray that she'll be pleased.

A week passed and I got a phone call from my sister-in-law and she couldn't stop raving about my candle gift certificate. All the different kinds of candles she picked, from Scented Pillar Candles to scented tea Lights and some scented votive candles too, all in great colors. And after that she started to tell me about what a wonderful romantic evening her and her husband had spent together last night and... Hey girl, I get the picture! I knew this was going to be a great day, nothing better than making someone happy, especially my sister-in-law.

The Benefits of Soy Candles Business

In 1992 Michael Richards found a method of creating wax from soybeans. Ever since his discovery, soy wax has been used as a natural and safe alternative by many candle making companies. The soy candle has become much more popular to use than beeswax or paraffin wax options. While beeswax is natural and has a wonderful scent, it is quite a bit more expensive than a soy candle without offering an increase in quality. In paraffin wax you may be subjected to unnatural resins and possibly toxic impurities.

Going Green With A Soy Candle

Many consumers are choosing soy candles because they burn considerably longer and do not produce the messy residue that you get with paraffin candles. Another green benefit of a soy candle is that they do not create poisonous fumes. These are just a couple of the reasons that that soy is a great alternative, not only for our families, but for the environment as well.

Soy Wax Is Easy To Clean

If you have spent much time burning candles, you know how messy candle wax can be and how difficult it can be to cleanup. If you get beeswax or paraffin wax drippings on a fabric or surface you may be spending a lot of time and energy getting it out. Soy wax, on the other hand, comes out pretty easily with only soap and water. I do not know about you, but this reason alone would make soy candles the only choice for our home.

The Soy Candle Business

There are a lot of people searching for a simple, affordable home business these days and the soy candle business is giving thousands of these people the opportunity they are searching for. One of the exciting things about the soy candle business is that there are multiple ways for you to make money, and that is what it is really all about isn't it. Whether you are searching for a means to supplement your current income or make this a full time business, the gourmet soy candle business may be what you are looking for. If you love scented candles, this really is a scented candle lover's dream business.

Tips Increase Soy Candle Sales

A well written press release will bring potential sales to your product line of soy candles in several ways. By making your candles known through a press release, you expose your company to the eyes of potential buyers and the media at the same time. Plus, a well optimized press release can bring targeted traffic to you business by using a combination of the right keywords and interesting content to draw readers.

When you have decided on a topic of interest for your press release and have a list of the keywords that you want to use to optimize the information, remembering these three tips will make the difference between a successful press release and just another press release:

First : Make a List, Check it Twice: A press release is formatted with specific information in expected places. If your press release lacks the needed contact information or a dazzling headline (or if you headline is too long!), then you may loose readers due to ineffectual presentation. A quick internet search can give you some very reliable press release templates, so do not sell your efforts to gain exposure for your soy candle line short by using an improper format.

Second : SEO to Go: When you write your copy for your press release, be sure that you include your major keywords sprinkled throughout the body of the copy. Although your press release will be read by a human audience, if it is presented online, either through a press service, a blog, or your website, those keywords will also be what draws search engine traffic to you. In order to draw the most targeted search engine traffic, try using words that are specific to your company as well as general in your industry. For instance, in your copy, you might use the words "wholesale soy candles" as well as "soy candles" and "wholesale candles". Further, be sure that you approach different markets in your press releases. Like, if you want to target restaurants or florists, be sure you include those keywords too.

Third : Know Who is Listening: Many people find a press release hard to write because of the multitude of audiences that read a press release. Simply remember that when you create a press release about your products, you are telling a story to interest anyone who picks up the press release. Be factual, but be enthusiastic about what you are writing. For example, there is a difference between the headline "New Soy Candle fragrance brings passion to Valentines Day" and "Soy candle company sells candles". The only thing these two headlines share in common is using an important keyword in the headline! Do not be afraid to make the copy interesting to your reader and it will not matter who reads your press release.

To successfully write a press release about your products, be cognizant of the mixture of keywords and information. Never write a press release that is strictly fluff or promotion. Use your press releases to optimize your search engine efforts and bring important information to your readers.

The Joys of Soy Candle Making

I thought what could be so hard, you melt some wax, stick a wick in it and dump in some dye and fragrance! Making soy candles turned out to be extremely fun and extremely challenging at the same time.

You can't just melt the wax and pour it in. The wax must be gently heated to the appropriate temperature, which isn't always the one suggested by the manufacturer. While heating, the wax should be gently stirred so hot spots do not occur.
Once the wax has reached this magical temperature, that takes much trial and error to determine, you can add your dye and then fragrance and stir, stir, stir. You must stir in the fragrance to fully incorporate it into the wax. The wax needs to be hot enough for the fragrance to blend in properly, but not too hot that the fragrance burns off.

While waiting, you can set your wick. So how does one attach a wick you ask? Great question, with no right answer. Ask 10 candle makers and they will use 10 different things to attach their wicks. I have tried wick stickers, glue dots, beeswax and hot glue. None of these worked for me. All of the wicks lifted towards the end of the burn cycle.
I tried many industrial adhesives and settled on one that works great. Choosing the right wick is the second biggest challenge I have faced as a candle maker. Every wax is different as are the fragrances and dyes you put in that wax. Each combination has an optimum wick! You can get guidance on where to start based on your container size and wax type, but ultimately your candles will be different then someone else's and what works for them may not work for you. There are many different wick types: flat braid, braided, cotton, cotton-blend, cored, non-cored, zinc cored, paper filament and hemp.
Lead wicks have not been in this country for many years, so don't buy the hype that somehow you may be getting a lead wicked candle. I like CD wicks and CDN wicks which are flat braided cotton, woven with a paper filament. This isn't a plug, I just really like those wicks and they work with most waxes. If the proper wick is not chosen, your candle will not burn correctly. If it is under-wicked, the wick may drown out or the scent throw will be bad or may not even exist. If it is over-wicked, the candle will burn fast, the wick will smoke and/or mushroom, and your fragrance may burn off from too much heat.

Back to actually making the candle. You have attached your perfect wick and are ready to pour your wax. So what is the right time/temperature to pour? The right pouring temperature/technique will help eliminate common candle problems which include frosting, rough tops, glass adhesion, craters and cracking. I stir the wax during this process. I then slowly pour into pre warmed containers and place in an oven to cool.

The soy candle making equipment needed to make soy candles is very basic and you won't have to spend a fortune on supplies. First, you need something to melt the soy wax in. If you already have one, you can use it to melt your soy wax. The second piece of soy candle making equipment you need is a thermometer. A candy thermometer works best. Since the soy wax melts quickly, you will need to monitor the temperature of the melting soy wax to ensure it doesn't get too hot. Fragrance can be lost to evaporation if it takes a long time for the soy candle to cool. Third, you need a vessel to pour the melted wax into the molds. Any heat safe pourable cup will work for this.

The fourth and final soy candle making equipment necessary to make soy candles is a scale to measure the wax. Depending on the size of the soy candles you are making, you will need to know how much soy wax to use.
